Capt. Danny Wray is a Coast Guard Licensed Captain and a Heritage Endorsed Guide in Grand Isle, Louisiana

July 14th,The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission announced large scale reopening of waters to fishing.  Grand Isle is now open to fishing, but Elmer's Island is still closed.  We will wait to see if this decision holds up.  We hope that is does and that Elmers Island will reopen soon.

At this point we are waiting to see if the decision to open waters will hold up or be recinded before we decided what to do with the Ride the Bull tournament for 2010.   Please check back for more information: www.calmwatercharters.net/ridethebull

Calmwater Charters is involved in the day to day battle to protect the estuary and coast.  Danny is employed as a vessel of opportunity captain and is currently assigned to transport soil survey teams.  He is visiting most shoreline contact locations in both Terrebonne and Baratatia bays.  Although some water is open to fishing, it is necessary to direct our assets to the clean up activities.  Thank you to everyone who has called and emailed us.  Although this unfortunate event continues and the future is uncertain, based on what has happened, I am still optimistic that we will return to fishing by December.  This is has been a difficult and emotional time for Kristen and I and we appreciate all your thoughts and prayers.

We started a blog about the oil spill, will post Danny's pictures and what he is doing.  It is short for now - but will get longer.

Although we continue to monitor the Oil Spill in the Gulf, since Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries changes its rules on fishing closures nearly every day, our best information is to direct you the agency's website to find out about fishing closures and rules at:www.wlf.louisiana.gov/   Thanks!

Calmwater Charters offers customers a unique approach to coastal Louisiana inshore fishing near Grand Isle, Louisiana.  Our specialty is providing a memorable day on the water.  Our trips are designed to provide an exciting angling experience.  Many days we will use our Carolina Skiff to transport you to scenic marsh islands that are otherwise unreachable by paddling alone. At other times of the year, we will trailer our Heritage Redfish Angler Kayaks to locations that enable us to use the tides and wind to access marsh ponds otherwise unreachable by conventional water craft. When the speckled trout move off the beaches, we will take you there to experience an enhanced version of wade fishing, where you will learn stealthly kayak drifting techniques that will enable you to stay with the school of trout.  We fish year round in Grand Isle - and you can too!

Captain Danny Wray is a licensed Coast Guard Captain as well as an experienced and knowledgeable fisherman who is eager to share his experience with you.  As a Heritage Endorsed Guide, Capt. Wray can provide you with value insight on kayak fishing techniques, rigging and strategies. He has been featured in magazines such as Field and Stream, Tide, Louisiana Sportsman, Gulf Coast Fisherman, Canoe and Kayak, Marsh and Bayou, and on the TV shows Journey South, Louisiana Sportsman TV and Paradise Louisiana airing on Cox Sports.  Look for Capt. Wray's column, Kayaker's Corner, in Marsh and Bayou Magazine and his regional fishing reports in Kayak Angler Magazine.

Our 2009 Native Water Craft Ultimate and Manta Ray Kayaks are equipped with everything you'll need to enjoy a unique angling experience. Our standard equipment includes a bow or stern mounted anchor or mud anchor, a seat with back rest, a graphite double paddle, a Coast Guard approved floatation device, an aerated portable live bait bucket (if you prefer live bait), and fishing gear.  You are welcome to bring your own rod and reel, if you choose.

Calmwater Charters also provides guided conventional fishing trips, and Kayak Estuary/Birding Tours. Click on the pages to the left to learn more about the different charters and services we offer.

We look forward to cleaning your fish!
